Attorney-at-law Alexandru Rotari failed the resumed evaluation of the Pre-Vetting Commission

The Pre-Vetting Commission announces that has completed the resumed evaluation of Alexandru Rotari, a non-judicial candidate for membership in the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM). According to the Commission, the candidate failed the resumed evaluation, as the candidate does not meet the financial and ethical integrity criteria. The decision was sent today to the candidate and the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, the institution responsible for organizing the contest. The decision on the resumed evaluation of Alexandru Rotari will not be made public, because the candidate opposed to its publication.

The resumed evaluation of candidate Alexandru Rotari started after, on 1 August 2023, the Supreme Court of Justice, annulled several of the Commission’s decisions and ordered the re-evaluation of 21 candidates. The candidate refused to participate in a public hearing during the resumed evaluation process, and the Commission evaluated him on the basis of the information collected by the Commission and provided by the candidate.

Out of the 21 candidates re-evaluated following the SCJ decisions of August 1, 2023, one candidate passed the resumed evaluation, five failed, two candidates withdrew from the competition during the re-evaluation process and in one case the Commission terminated the resumed evaluation. Currently the Commission is re-evaluating 11 candidates for membership in the SCM.
