The Pre-Vetting Commission concludes the evaluation of the group of candidates for the position of member in the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP) with the issuance of decisions on prosecutors Vasile Plevan and Gheorghe Graur. According to the Commission, the two candidates do not meet the criteria of financial and ethical integrity, and therefore do not pass the evaluation. The outcome of the evaluation is contained in the decisions sent today to the prosecutor candidates and to the SCP, the institution responsible for organizing the competition.
Gheorghe Graur, prosecutor within the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office and Vasile Plevan, acting deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, are to notify the Commission whether they accept or oppose to the publication of the decisions, within 48 hours from the receipt. In the absence of notification, the decisions will be published on the Commission’s website in a depersonalized form, in both Romanian and English. According to the provisions of Law No 26/2022, any decision may be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice within 5 days of receipt.
Eighteen candidates entered the competition for membership of the main self-governing body of prosecutors – the SCP. They were subject to an extraordinary evaluation, and following the verifications, the Pre-Vetting Commission issued eight decisions of passing the evaluation and ten decisions of failing the evaluation. Out of the latter ten decision, four candidates failed the evaluation on the grounds that they withdrew from the competition or did not submit the 5-year Declaration on time, and six candidates failed the evaluation following the full vetting process.
