The Pre-Vetting Commission has completed the evaluation of Mariana Cherpec, Iuri Lealin, Elena Roșior and Olesea Vîrlan, candidates to the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP). According to the Commission, the four prosecutors meet the integrity criteria and pass the evaluation. The decisions sent today to the candidates and to the SCP, the institution responsible for organizing the competition in this case, contain more detailed information on the outcome of the assessment.
At this stage, the Commission is only entitled to communicate information on the outcome of the evaluation, as decisions can only be published with the consent of the candidates concerned. They must notify the Commission whether or not they object to publication within 48 hours after receiving the decision, according to Law 26/2022. Decisions may be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice within 5 days from the receipt, under the provisions of the same law.
Mariana Cherpec, prosecutor in the Prosecutors’ Office of Chișinău municipality and Iuri Lealin, prosecutor within the General Prosecutor’s Office, were interviewed by the Pre-Vetting Commission in the first round of hearings in order to become eligible for a position of member of the main self-administration body of prosecutors. The candidates Olesea Vîrlan, interim deputy chief prosecutor of the Ialoveni District Prosecutor’s Office and Elena Roșior, deputy chief prosecutor of the Anenii Noi Prosecutor’s Office, were interviewed in the second round of hearings. The hearings focused on issues of financial and ethical integrity.
Out of a total of 18 candidates who entered the competition for membership of the SCP, so far six candidates have passed the evaluation, eight candidates failed the evaluation and four candidates are awaiting the verdict of the Pre-Vetting Commission.
