One more SCM candidate, from among non-judges, passed the Pre-Vetting Commission evaluation

The Pre-Vetting Commission announces the result of the evaluation regarding the candidate for the SCM membership, from among non-judges, Lucia Popescu. According to the Commission, the candidate meets the criteria of financial and ethical integrity, thus passing the evaluation. The passing decision was sent today to the candidate and the Parliament, which is the institution responsible for organizing the competition, in this case.

Lucia Popescu is to notify the Commission whether or not she opposes the publication of the decision within 48 hours of receipt, according to the provisions of Law no. 26/2022. The decision will be posted on the website of the Commission, in a depersonalized form, in Romanian and English, only with the consent of the candidate. The decisions of the Evaluation Commission may be appealed within 5 days from the date of receipt, without following the preliminary procedure.

Lucia Popescu is a candidate from the second group of non-judges, nominated by the Parliament for the position of member in the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), after being selected by the Legal, Appointments and Immunities Committee within a public competition. Out of 9 candidates with professional experience in the field of law or in another relevant field, included in the list sent to the Commission by the Parliamentary Legal, Appointments and Immunities Committee on 5 May 2023, so far, five candidates passed the evaluation, two candidates failed the evaluation, and two other candidates are waiting the decisions of the Commission in order to become eligible for membership in the SCM.
