One SCM candidate has passed the resumed evaluation of the Pre-Vetting Commission

The Pre-Vetting Commission announces the finalization of the resumed evaluation of judge Aliona Miron, candidate for the position of member in the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM). According to the Commission, the candidate has passed the resumed evaluation, in the sense that the candidate meets the ethical and financial criteria. The decision was sent today to the candidate and the SCM, the institution responsible for organizing the competition.

The decision on the resumed evaluation will be published only with the candidate’s consent. Aliona Miron has 48 hours to inform the Commission is she agrees or opposes the publication of the decision. If not such notification is sent to the Commission, the decision will be published on the Commission’s website, in a depersonalized form, in Romanian and English. The candidate was not publicly heard in view of the fact that the Commission took a decision to pass the candidate, pursuant to art. 19 lit. c) of Rules of Procedure of the Commission.

Judge Aliona Miron was re-evaluated after the Supreme Court of Justice, on 1 August 2023, annulled several of the Commission’s decisions and ordered the re-evaluation of the candidates. Out of the 21 re-evaluated candidates, one candidate passed the resumed evaluation, three failed and one candidate withdrew from the competition during the resumed evaluation process. Currently the Commission is re-evaluating 16 candidates for positions of member in the SCM and evaluating one candidate for the position of member in the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
